Lusamine vs. Ragyō Kiryūin (Pokémon vs. Kill La Kill) - Debate Blog #4

Lusamine, Pokémon's President of the Aether Foundation and mother to all Ultra Beasts.

Ragyō Kiryūin, Kill La Kill's CEO of REVOCS Corporation and the Life Fibers' most devoted.

Mothers are often seen as gentle, caring, nurturing, and loving. But when it comes to these two, that’s very much not the case. These two have alienated themselves from their families, becoming obsessed with an extraterrestrial species bent on taking over the world. But when put head to head, which of these evil mothers will go out on top in a battle to the death?

BEFORE WE START…

This blog will cover the two combatants and their most notable allies. Yes, this battle will be treated as an army fight. Fortunately for me, both their armies aren’t exactly that big compared to a matchup like Bowser vs. Eggman, so…

For Lusamine, I will generally use a soft composite of her appearances across the main Pokémon media, such as the games, anime, and manga. While there are certain elements in Lusamine’s story that differ among her multiple appearances, the main story beats are generally similar across all her appearances.

For Ragyō, the media used is much clearer-cut. Kill La Kill doesn’t really have much content beyond the main anime and its adaptations. That is, until we reach Kill La Kill: IF. While the canonicity of this video game within the franchise as a whole continues to be debated to this day, for this blog, I will consider it for the same reasons as the Erza vs Satsuki G1 Blog.

LUSAMINE FROZE POKÉMON ALIVE??? - Pokémon in DEATH BATTLE!

“Oh, don't you worry. You just leave everything up to me. Trust me—children would all be much happier if they'd only listen to the adults around them."

BACKGROUND

The Alola Region is home to many beautiful islands, but perhaps the most interesting of all is an artificial island smack dab in the middle of the region. This massive structure is the Aether Paradise. Created by the Aether Foundation as both a sanctuary for any and all Pokémon from across the world, as well as the base for their research. This undertaking was spearheaded by the Foundation’s very own President, Lusamine.

At first glance, Lusamine’s what you’d expect from a President of a Foundation whose mission is to take care of Pokémon. She’s described as being lovely, beautiful, maternal to all Pokémon, and has a keen sense of fashion. However, this is merely a facade for her true personality: a cold, selfish, detached, obsessive, and violent nature. But she was never always this way. What caused her to be so cruel?

Lusamine’s backstory differs across her appearances, but what they all have in common is that she’s an important figure in the Foundation (either a founder or inherited from her father) and that she married one of the Foundation's scientists, Mohn. She even had two kids: Gladion and Lillie. For the most part, her life was actually pretty good. She lived in luxury, was a good parent to her children, and overall was just a good person. However, this changed during one of the Foundation’s experiments to access Ultra Space. The accident caused her husband to be sucked into an Ultra Wormhole, never to be seen again. Now, why the hell were they studying this sort of thing? Well, Lusamine’s always been fascinated by Ultra Beasts since childhood. This fascination was actually one of the main factors behind the creation of the Aether Foundation, as it also serves as their primary base of operations for research on Ultra Beasts and Ultra Space as a whole.

The loss of her husband broke Lusamine. She became more controlling, neglectful, and destructive towards her own children. Her fascination with the Ultra Beasts turned to obsession as she became fixated on finding a way to bring her husband back. This shift in her attitude eventually led her children to run away from her, but not before she stole something from the Foundation (Lillie took a Cosmog, while Gladion took one of the Foundation’s own creations: Type: Null). Needless to say, this act caused their fragile relationship to break, now feeling that her own children had betrayed her.

While this part generally differs throughout her appearances, the part that stays pretty consistent is that she merges with a Nihilego and becomes a puppet to not only the Ultra Beast’s desires, but to her own as well. While she is defeated and the fusion is undone, she is left in a weakened state due to Nihilego’s strange properties. However, being in that fused state may have given her some clarity, as the cold, ruthless attitude we’ve seen so much of from her starts to break, and her old, loving personality starts to show through the cracks. Even when they pushed each other out, both Lusamine and her children never gave up on each other, deep down, and eventually repaired their relationship. She even managed to reconnect with her husband in most of her appearances and rebuild her family once more in the anime. While the main Lusamine’s fate is unknown, perhaps she’ll get a resolution like her anime version, and finally be able to give away all the love she has.

SKILL & EXPERIENCE

In terms of skill, Lusamine’s quite the skilled Trainer in her own right. In the games, she’s one of the possible challengers you can face during Title Defense, meaning she can consistently match and surpass the Elite 4. This alone should put her around the same ballpark as other skilled Trainers like Hau and Kukui, other Trainers whom you face in Title Defense and are known in canon to be very skilled battlers. She’s also potentially defeated the MC during the game, but that’s neither here nor there, to be honest…

She’s also quite intelligent. Perhaps, thanks to her spiraling obsession with Ultra Space following her husband's death, she’s quite knowledgeable about all things Ultra Space. She’s developed ways to summon Ultra Wormholes, create Ultra Beast-level threats like Type: Null, and even interact and catch certain Ultra Beasts despite never really doing that sort of thing before (the catching Ultra Beasts part, not catching Pokémon in general). She was also able to manipulate Team Skull into doing her bidding, mostly thanks to Lusamine using Guzma’s own insecurities against him. Even when this partnership ended, they still work together on occasion.

NOTABLE EQUIPMENT

Poké Balls

Lusamine has used various kinds of Poké Balls. Her regular Pokémon are stored in Ultra Balls, but she’s also made use of Beast Balls, special Poké Balls engineered to easily capture Ultra Beasts.

Cosmog’s Cage

A cubic cage designed to siphon a Cosmog's gases to open Ultra Wormholes. Due to the nature of a Cosmog only having so much gas, the Cage only has so many uses before the Cosmog becomes a Cosmoem, and the whole thing becomes essentially useless.

Sygna Suit

A special type of outfit appearing in Pokémon Masters EX that makes a Trainer match the appearance of their partner Pokémon. Sygna Suits are designed to give Trainers a stronger connection to their Pokémon. Wearing the outfit is said to make the Trainer feel as if they have become their Pokémon. Lusamine’s Sygna Suit is based on Necrozma.

Cryostatis Pods

This equipment isn't always on hand, but I’d be remiss not to mention it. Inside the Preservation Room, Lusamine has a couple of cryostasis pods that keep some Pokémon frozen alive… As of today, she’s frozen 11 Pokémon alive, including Magmar somehow…

SUPPORT

Lusamine’s Pokémon

These are Lusamine’s Non-Ultra Beast Pokémon that she primarily uses. Fun fact, all her Pokémon are female!

Clefable

  • Typing: Fairy

  • Strong Against: Dragon, Fighting, Dark

  • Weaknesses: Steel, Poison

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fighting, Bug, Dark, Dragon

Lusamine’s first Pokémon. The Clefable line is known for their sensitive hearing, being able hear a pin drop from a mile away. Clefable are also known to skip lightly as if they were flying. Lusamine’s Clefable has the ability Magic Guard, which prevents damage from non-attacking moves. This includes not being affected by a literal sea of poison.

Learned Moves:

  • Cosmic Power: The user absorbs a mystical power from space to raise its Defense and Sp. Def stats.

  • Moonblast: Borrowing the power of the moon, the user attacks the target. This may also lower the target's Sp. Atk stat.

  • Metronome: The user waggles a finger and stimulates its brain into randomly using nearly any move.

  • Moonlight: The user restores its own HP. The amount of HP regained varies with the weather.

  • Charm: The user gazes at the target rather charmingly, making it less wary. The target's Attack is harshly lowered.

  • Psychic: The target is hit by a strong telekinetic force. This may also lower the target's Sp. Def stat.

  • Hyper Voice: The user lets loose a horribly echoing shout with the power to inflict damage.

Lilligant

  • Typing: Grass

  • Strong Against: Water, Rock, Ground

  • Weaknesses: Fire, Poison, Flying, Bug, Ice

  • Resistances/Immunities: Ground, Water, Grass, Electric

Another Pokémon Lusamine owned in her earlier days. Lilligants are known for the flower on the top of their head, specifically for its relaxing effect. However, the process of making it grow and bloom is noted to be difficult, even for veteran Trainers. With her ability, Own Tempo, she cannot be confused or intimidated.

Learned Moves:

  • Petal Dance: The user attacks the target by scattering petals for two to three turns. The user then becomes confused.

  • Teeter Dance: The user performs a wobbly dance that confuses every Pokémon around it.

  • Stun Spore: The user scatters a cloud of numbing powder that paralyzes the target.

  • Leech Seed: A seed is planted on the target. It steals some HP from the target every turn.

  • Sweet Scent: The user releases a scent that harshly lowers opposing Pokémon's evasiveness.

  • Solar Beam: The user gathers light on the first turn, then blasts a bundled beam on the next turn.

  • Leaf Storm: The user whips up a storm of leaves around the target. The recoil from this move harshly lowers the user's Sp. Atk stat.

  • Sunny Day: The user intensifies the sun for five turns, powering up Fire-type attacks.

  • Strength to Protect!: Raises the user's Sp. Atk by four stat ranks. Raises the user's accuracy by one stat rank. Raises the user's critical-hit rate by two stat ranks.

  • Even More Beautiful Grass Beam: A Sync Move from Pokémon Masters EX. The user becomes one with Lilligant and unleashes a powerful Grass-type attack.

Mismagius

  • Typing: Ghost

  • Strong Against: Psychic, Ghost

  • Weaknesses: Dark, Ghost

  • Resistances/Immunities: Normal, Fighting, Poison, Bug

It's unknown when Lusamine had a Mismagius, but she's a constant throughout her various appearances. A Mismagius' cries sound like incantations, and they often bring bad luck upon those who hear her. However, they can also apparently bring good luck. Guess it depends… With her Levitate ability, no Ground-type attack can touch her. Additionally, being a Ghost, she can appear and disappear from out of nowhere.

Learned Moves:

  • Mystical Fire: The user attacks by breathing a special, hot fire. This also lowers the target's Sp. Atk stat.

  • Shadow Ball: The user hurls a shadowy blob at the target. This may also lower the target's Sp. Def stat.

  • Power Gem: The user attacks with a ray of light that sparkles as if it were made of gemstones.

  • Pain Split: The user adds its HP to the target's HP, then equally shares the combined HP with the target.

  • Thunderbolt: The user attacks the target with a strong electric blast. This may also leave the target with paralysis.

Milotic

  • Typing: Water

  • Strong Against: Ground, Rock, Fire

  • Weaknesses: Grass, Electric

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fire, Water, Ice, Steel

A Pokémon that Lusamine has. The Milotic line is known for its beauty, which is said to be incredibly calming. Her ability, Marvel Scale, boosts her defense whenever she receives a status condition like burn or paralysis.

Learned Moves:

  • Hydro Pump: The target is blasted by a huge volume of water.

  • Flail: This attack becomes more powerful the less HP the user has.

  • Safeguard: The user's party is protected from status conditions for five turns.

  • Recover: The user restores its own HP by up to half of its maximum HP.

  • Icy Wind: The user attacks with an icy gust of wind. This also lowers the opposing Pokémon's Speed stats.

  • Dragon Pulse: The target is attacked with a shock wave generated by the user's gaping mouth.

  • Water Pulse: The user attacks the target with a pulsing blast of water. This may also confuse the target.

  • Haze: The Pokémon disappears in a puff of smoke to reset every Pokémon's stat changes.

  • X Speed All: Raises the Speed of all allied sync pairs by two stat ranks.

  • So Show Me!: Raises the user's Sp. Atk by four stat ranks. Raises the user's critical-hit rate by two stat ranks.

  • Caring Isn't Enough Water Beam: The more the user's Speed is raised, the greater the power of this attack. (6★ EX effect: The first time the user's sync move is used each battle, the sync move countdown is reduced by three.)

Bewear

  • Typing: Normal/Fighting

  • Strong Against: Rock, Ice, Steel, Normal, Dark

  • Weaknesses: Fighting, Psychic, Flying, Fairy

  • Resistances/Immunities: Rock, Bug, Ghost, Dark

A Pokémon that Lusamine has. A Bewear's hugs can effortlessly break people's spines, so be careful when around one. Her ability, Fluffy, halves the damage from moves that make direct contact, but makes her more susceptible to Fire attacks.

Learned Moves:

  • Baby-Doll Eyes: The user stares at the target with its baby-doll eyes, which lowers the target's Attack stat. This move always goes first.

  • Take Down: A reckless, full-body charge attack for slamming into the target. This also damages the user a little.

  • Hammer Arm: The user swings its strong, heavy fist at the target to inflict damage. This also lowers the user's Speed stat.

  • Pain Split: The user adds its HP to the target's HP, then equally shares the combined HP with the target.

  • Zen Headbutt: The user focuses its willpower to its head and attacks the target. This may also make the target flinch.

  • Drain Punch: An energy-draining punch. The user's HP is restored by half the damage taken by the target.

Lopunny

  • Typing: Normal

  • Strong Against: N/A

  • Weaknesses: Fighting

  • Resistances/Immunities: Ghost

A Pokémon that Lusamine has. Lopunny are known for their graceful legs that can deliver powerful kicks. Despite this, Lusamine's Lopunny only knows punching moves... Her ability Cute Charm makes it so that any direct contact with the Pokémon can cause infatuation, which can halt a Pokémon moving 50% of the time.

Learned Moves:

  • Dizzy Punch: The target is pounded with a couple of good hits. This may also confuse the target.

  • Fire Punch: The target is punched with a fiery fist. This may also leave the target with a burn.

  • Ice Punch: The target is punched with an icy fist. This may also leave the target frozen.

  • Thunder Punch: The target is punched with an electrified fist. This may also leave the target with paralysis.

Salazzle

  • Typing: Poison/Fire

  • Strong Against: Grass, Bug, Steel, Fairy

  • Weaknesses: Ground, Water, Rock, Psychic

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fighting, Poison, Steel, Fire, Ice, Bug, Grass, Fairy

A Pokémon that Lusamine has in the anime. Salazzle releases pheromones to essentially brainwash her targets into doing what she wants. The pheromones also attract male Salandit, creating a reverse harem.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed that she at least has a Salazzle’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Absol

  • Typing: Dark

  • Strong Against: Psychic, Ghost

  • Weaknesses: Fighting, Bug, Fairy

  • Resistances/Immunities: Ghost, Dark, Psychic

A Pokémon that Lusamine has. Absol can foresee the coming of natural disasters and even live up to 100 years.

Learned Moves:

  • Psycho Cut: The user tears at the target with blades formed by psychic power. This move has a high critical-hit ratio.

  • Ice Beam: The target is struck with an icy beam of energy. This may also leave the target frozen.

  • Mean Look: The user pins the target with an intense look. The target is unable to flee during the next turn.

The Ultra Beasts

Lusamine’s partnered up with the Ultra Beasts on multiple occasions, so it’s no real surprise that they’d be mentioned here. All Ultra Beasts (except Necrozma) have the ability Beast Boost, which boosts their most prominent stat for every opponent they knock out. Additionally, all Ultra Beasts have the ability to open up Ultra Wormholes seemingly whenever they want. This ability has been shown by both Kartana, Necrozma, and (i think) Naganadel.

Nihilego

  • Typing: Rock/Poison

  • Strong Against: Grass, Flying, Fairy, Fire, Ice, Bug

  • Weaknesses: Steel, Water, Ground, Psychic

  • Resistances/Immunities: Normal, Flying, Bug, Fire, Fairy, Poison

The Ultra Beast Lusamine is most associated with. They are parasitic Ultra Beasts that feed off their host's emotions. Specifically, they produce a sort of neurotoxin that turns a host’s negative emotions into ones of addictive happiness and pleasure. They also heighten their host’s physical capabilities to fend off would-be foes. But that’s not all they can do. Nihilego can create illusions, read memories, alter perception, teleport, turn invisible, sense negative emotions, and even heal people. In certain cases, Nihilego can even physically fuse with their host, greatly enhancing the host’s physical capabilities while slowly degenerating the host's mind.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Special Defense.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Nihilego’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Buzzwole

  • Typing: Bug/Fighting

  • Strong Against: Grass, Psychic, Dark, Normal, Ice, Rock, Steel

  • Weaknesses: Flying, Psychic, Fire, Fairy

  • Resistances/Immunities: Grass, Fighting, Ground, Bug, Dark

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. Buzzwole's proboscis is as hard as a diamond, and it uses that appendage to absorb the energy of its prey. This boosts their physical stats, making them faster and stronger. They can destroy a dump truck with one punch.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Attack.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Buzzwole’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Pheromosa

  • Typing: Bug/Fighting

  • Strong Against: Grass, Psychic, Dark, Normal, Ice, Rock, Steel

  • Weaknesses: Flying, Psychic, Fire, Fairy

  • Resistances/Immunities: Grass, Fighting, Ground, Bug, Dark

The Ultra Beast that bears a striking resemblance to the Aether Foundation's President. Lusamine commanded a Pheromosa in the manga as well as in Pokémon Masters. Pheromosa's slender body makes it incredibly fast, fast enough to dodge lightning! Pheromosa can also give out hypnotic pheromones that confuse their target, making them lose the will to fight.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Speed.

Learned Moves:

  • Bug Buzz: The user attacks the target with an ultrasonic sound wave. This may also lower the target's Sp. Def stat.

  • Lunge: The user lunges at the target to inflict damage. This also lowers the target's Attack stat.

  • Blizzard: A vicious gale of ice-cold air. This may also leave the target frozen. It hits all opposing Pokémon in Double Battles.

  • There, There: Raises the user's evasiveness and critical-hit rate by one stat rank. Restores the user's HP by approximately 40% of its maximum HP when in a pinch. Charges the user's move gauge by two when in a pinch.

  • Motherly Love Savage Spin Out: A Sync Move from Pokémon Masters EX. It's a repurposed Z-Move. The user and Pokémon unleash a powerful Bug-type attack on a single target. (6★ EX effect: Sync moves will target all opposing sync pairs.)

Xurkitree

  • Typing: Electric

  • Strong Against: Ground, Flying

  • Weaknesses: Ground

  • Resistances/Immunities: Electric, Flying, Steel

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. Xurkitree can vary in size, from being around the size of a child to the size of a mountain! Back in its home world, it plants itself on the ground, feeding off the electrical energy Ultra Plant gives off. Xurkitree can let off a million volts of electricity at a time.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Special Attack.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Xurkitree’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Celesteela

  • Typing: Steel/Flying

  • Strong Against: Ice, Rock, Fairy, Grass, Bug, Fighting

  • Weaknesses: Fire, Electric

  • Resistances/Immunities: Normal, Grass, Ice, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Steel, Fairy, Fighting, Ground, Poison

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. They pop out of the ground like a plant in their home world before exploding off from the ground, using the flammable gas inside their system to rocket off to other worlds for unknown reasons.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Special Attack.

Learned Moves:

  • Dizzy Punch: The target is pounded with a couple of good hits. This may also confuse the target.

  • Fire Punch: The target is punched with a fiery fist. This may also leave the target with a burn.

  • Ice Punch: The target is punched with an icy fist. This may also leave the target frozen.

  • Thunder Punch: The target is punched with an electrified fist. This may also leave the target with paralysis.

Kartana

  • Typing: Grass/Steel

  • Strong Against: Water, Ground, Rock, Ice, Fairy

  • Weaknesses: Fire, Fighting

  • Resistances/Immunities: Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Rock, Dragon, Steel, Fairy, Poison

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. Based on origami, its paper-like body makes it light but also super sharp. Its Moon PokeDex entry states that it can cut down a steel tower with ease. Kartana's paper-like body also allows it to effortlessly dodge attacks by simply flying around them, like a paper in the wind.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Attack.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Kartana’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Guzzlord

  • Typing: Dark/Dragon

  • Strong Against: Psychic, Ghost, Dragon

  • Weaknesses: Fairy, Ice, Fighting, Bug, Dragon

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ghost, Dark, Psychic

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. They live in an alternate version of Alola, called Ultra Ruin. They're actually not native to this version of Alola, but they got there via an Ultra Wormhole and just started devouring everything. Guzzlord can eat anything: rivers, seas, and even mountains.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Attack.

Learned Moves:

  • Dizzy Punch: The target is pounded with a couple of good hits. This may also confuse the target.

  • Fire Punch: The target is punched with a fiery fist. This may also leave the target with a burn.

  • Ice Punch: The target is punched with an icy fist. This may also leave the target frozen.

  • Thunder Punch: The target is punched with an electrified fist. This may also leave the target with paralysis.

Naganadel

  • Typing: Poison/Dragon

  • Strong Against: Grass, Fairy, Dragon

  • Weaknesses: Ice, Ground, Psychic, Dragon

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fire, Water, Electric, Fighting, Poison, Bug, Grass

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. Fun Fact, the Naganadel line are actually considered as starters in Ultra Megalopolis. They can shoot a venomous adhesive from its stinger for over six miles.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Speed.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Naganadel’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Stakataka

  • Typing: Rock/Steel

  • Strong Against: Fire, Ice, Flying, Bug, Rock, Fairy

  • Weaknesses: Fighting, Ground, Water

  • Resistances/Immunities: Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Fairy, Normal, Flying, Poison

Surprisingly, Stakataka is the only Ultra Beast Lusamine has not explicitly used. But with her Beast Balls and dimension travel capabilities, having this Pokémon be part of her arsenal is a non-issue. Stakataka is made up of 150 individual brick-like lifeforms. These lifeforms can move around freely, turning into legs. They can also use this massive structure as a trap.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Defense.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Stakataka’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Blacephalon

  • Typing: Fire/Ghost

  • Strong Against: Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Psychic, Ghost

  • Weaknesses: Ground, Water, Rock, Psychic

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fire, Grass, Ice, Poison, Steel, Fairy, Bug, Normal, Fighting

An Ultra Beast Lusamine has used in combat in the manga. Its main way of attack is lowering the opponent's sense of security by being a massive goof  (it is based on a clown, after all) before blowing its head up to shock the opponent, before stealing their vitality. Blacephalon can enlarge its head and can even regenerate it quickly after it explodes.

Beast Boost sharply raises their most prominent stat every time they take down a Pokémon. In this case, it raises their Special Attack.

Learned Moves:

  • None Shown… Can be assumed she at least has a Blacephalon’s Level Up moves and potentially the T.M. moves as well.

Necrozma

Dusk Mane Necrozma:

  • Typing: Psychic/Steel

  • Strong Against: Fighting, Poison, Ice, Rock, Fairy

  • Weaknesses: Fire, Ground, Ghost, Dark

  • Resistances/Immunities: Normal, Grass, Ice, Flying, Rock, Dragon, Steel, Fairy, Psychic, Poison

Ultra Necrozma:

  • Typing: Psychic/Dragon

  • Strong Against: Fighting, Poison, Dragon

  • Weaknesses: Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Fairy

  • Resistances/Immunities: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Psychic

Necrozma is one of Lusamine's partner Pokémon in Pokémon Masters EX. Essentially the "god" of Ultra Space, it was once able to give out light in its original form, but was left damaged and angered due to the Ultra Recon Squad's ancestors' attempts to steal its light. Necrozma can open and enter Ultra Wormholes at will, which it uses to hunt Solgaleo and Lunala for their light energy. Necrozma can even absorb the world's aura, making adults feel more tired and less motivated. Necrozma can also fuse with Solgaleo and Lunala, with Lusamine having Dusk Mane Necrozma on hand (the fusion between Solgaleo and Necrozma). Additionally, with enough  Z-Energy, Necromza will transform into Ultra Necrozma! Ultra Necrozma is the tallest Psychic type on record, and its body can exceed 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit (5,540 degrees Celsius)!

Learned Moves:

  • Mirror Shot: The user fires a metallic shrapnel at the target. This may also lower the target's accuracy stat.

  • Prismatic Laser: The user fires a large laser beam at the target. The user must rest on the next turn.

  • Light That Burns The Sky/Loving Light That Burns The Sky: A Sync Move used by Lusamine & Necrozma. A repurposed Z-Move. VERY good at killing Ribombees.

  • Luminous Love: Reduces the user's sync move countdown by two. Raises the user's Sp. Atk by six stat ranks. Lowers the user's Speed by one stat rank.

  • Dire Hit +:   Raises the user's critical-hit rate by two stat ranks.

Human Support

Aether Foundation

The company that Lusamine either inherited or founded, depending on the continuity. What's consistent between continuities, however, is that Lusamine is the President of this company, and everyone in it can turn aggressive against the player under her command. They are headed by the Branch Chiefs Faba and Wicke.

Faba is one of the Branch Chiefs and the Aether Foundation's supposed "last line of defense". Faba comes across as extremely prideful and arrogant, often gloating about his position and success, making it clear he is above or below others. He openly states he hates dealing with and talking to children, often berating, belittling, or even insulting children in front of him. Faba specializes in Psychic Pokémon like Alakazam, Slowbro, and Bruxish. He was eventually demoted to an intern due to, uh… well, let’s just say, multiple betrayals.

Wicke is the second Branch Chief and the caring assistant of Lusamine. Wicke was one of the Employees who disagreed with Lusamine's obsession with the Ultra Beasts. She even assists the International Police in an attempt to atone for Lusamine's mistakes. She's the pacifist of the Foundation, with no battle dedicated to her.

They command the various Aether Foundation Employees throughout the… Foundation. They’ve made use of various Pokémon that can be found all throughout the Alola Region. They really don't have a type preference, but they’re usually use mid-tier to pretty good Wild Pokémon.

Team Skull

A relatively short-lived partnership between the Aether Foundation and the region's resident gang, Team Skull. Although it was really more of a partnership, and Lusamine was using Team Skull as a puppet to kidnap Lillie and Nebby. While this partnership ultimately falls apart in most continuities, and Team Skull even disbands around the time that this partnership does, their leader, Guzma, still helps out Lusamine on occasion (the most obvious case of this being Guzma's appearance in Episode RR, where he helps the player free the Aether Foundation from Giovanni's clutches).

Guzma is the big bad boss of Team Skull. He may seem intimidating at first, but it's just a facade to hide the years of humiliation, abuse (not confirmed), and lack of confidence. In fact, he only really worked with Lusamine because she was the only one who saw his strength (which may have been a trick to get Team Skull on her side). After his experience with Lusamine and the Ultra Beasts, Guzma decided to reform his life and disband Team Skull. Guzma specializes in Bug-type Pokémon such as Golisopod, Masquerain, Ariados, and Buzzwole.

Plumeria is Guzma's right-hand woman and the Team Skull Grunts’ "big sister" because of her stern yet caring attitude towards them. She's also so bad, bruh. Despite her outward appearance, she's incredibly caring for the various members of Team Skull. She specializes in Poison Pokémon like Salazzle, Toxapex, Lurantis (somehow), and Gengar.

These two command the various Grunts of Team Skull. They're mean and rowdy, but most are just people who need help, shelter, and a sense of belonging. They only really act mean to maintain Team Skull's intimidating image, but most just find them kinda annoying. They've used various Pokémon from Alola, mostly Dark- and Poison-type Pokémon.

Team Skull may seem a bit goofy, but they can be genuine threats when they want to be. Heck, they’ve managed to take over a whole ass town. That’s gotta be worth something.

Lillie and Gladion

Despite the rocky relationship between mother and children, they’ve actually managed to patch things up at the end of their series’ stories. They will have some obvious growing pains trying to work with each other, but they’ll have each other’s backs at the end of the day.

Gladion is the older of the two and Pokémon’s best edgelord since Silver. His most notable Pokémon is the one he stole from Aether Foundation all those years ago, Silvally. Silvally was specifically designed to kill Ultra Beasts, using its RKS System Ability to change its type to whichever memory disc it’s holding. But that’s not all that Gladion has used before. He’s made use of Crobat, Zoroark, the Kanto Starters, Porygon-Z, Lucario, Lycanroc, Weavile, and Magearna.

Lillie is the younger of the two and the one who rescued a certain Cosmog named Nebby during the events of Gen 7. Lillie likes to use Fairy Pokémon like Clefairy, Ribombee, Comfey, and Primarina. She’s also used some other Pokémon like Polteageist, Lunala, and Solgaleo.

ABILITIES

Ultra Wormholes

Lusamine has multiple ways to summon Ultra Wormholes. Lusamine can use Cosmog’s Cage to not only summon an Ultra Wormhole for herself, but also summon them around the Alola Region. Then, there’s the Ultra Beasts’ ability to open Ultra Wormholes whenever they desire. .There’s Cosmog’s cage, which she can use to not only open one for herself, but also open The Ultra Beasts can also open Ultra Wormholes naturally, as seen with both Necrozma and Kartana.

These Ultra Wormholes can also be used to trap others in another universe. Lusamine did this to herself when she traveled to Ultra Deep Sea, but the best example of this was when Colress sent the alternate versions of the various members of Team Rainbow Rocket back using Ultra Space technology. While Lusamine doesn’t have exactly the same technology as Colress, she should be able to replicate this sort of maneuver.

MOTHERBEAST

Lusamine’s infamous fusion with Nihilego, dubbed MOTHERBEAST. Nihilego grows in size as they begin to turn black and purple. This form is incredibly powerful, but Lusamine is completely overwhelmed by the Ultra Beast’s neurotoxins, reducing her mentality to that of a child's. Nihilego can also force Lusamine back into the fusion, meaning that it’s difficult to unfuse the two unless you force the Nihilego away. MOTHERBEAST has shown to be able to replicate much of what regular Nihilego can do, but also has added abilities that will be listed below:

Resistances

  • Light Poison Resistance:  While Nihilego’s toxins are definitely potent, Lusamine’s body has shown to be tough enough to survive prolonged exposure to the neurotoxins. Heck, in the manga, she willingly fused with Nihilego multiple times.

FEATS

Overall

  • Managed to reunite with her children and her husband, eventually fixing their family’s relationship.

  • Survived Nihilego's neurotoxins while it was still in her system.

  • Beat the Elite 4 to become a challenger during Title Defense.

Attack Potency/Strength

Speed

  • Pheromosa can dodge lightning.

  • Necrozma (and the other Ultra Beasts, although maybe to a lesser degree) should match Solgaleo and Lunala, who can cross Ultra Space  (1.073e9c, likely Infinite/Immeasurable).

  • Necrozma absorbed all the light in Ultra Space (Infinite, potentially Immeasurable).

Durability

SCALING

Wild Pokémon

As a highly-ranked Trainer like herself, Lusamine should be able to casually defeat Wild Pokémon with her own.

Legendary Pokémon

The Legendary Pokémon scaling can get a bit wack, but-

So, with some more direct comparisons, 50% Zygarde considered the Ultra Beasts too much of a threat to the order of nature, so it had to intervene, and Ultra Necrozma threw hands with Zygarde's Complete Forme and overpowered it. Additionally, Mega Zygarde's Nihil Light has been likened to Z-Moves, which come from the same power as the Ultra Beasts. Zygarde is also stated to be above Xerneas and Yveltal. Additionally, Lusamine’s side should match Solgaleo and Lunala, as not only does her side have access to them (see Lillie), but Necrozma hunts them on a consistent basis, further justifying the comparisons.

For some less direct comparisons, Lusamine can keep up with Ash, at least for a bit, and Ash can match Legendary Pokémon like Entei, Groudon, and Kyogre. Additionally, in the movie Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, multiple Legendary Pokémon (including the Creation Trio) are shown to be mostly equivalent to each other. This means that at her best, Lusamine's team should be able to reach the powers that Legendary Pokémon can.

WEAKNESSES

Obviously, Lusamine’s Pokémon all have their own type weaknesses, but what’s interesting to talk about here is what could be considered Lusamine, or more specifically, MOTHERBEAST’s weaknesses are. MOTHERBEAST (or specifically Nihilego)’s mind control is not absolute and it can be broken. For example, Lillie has broken Clefable out of MOTHERBEAST’s control by showing her an item that reminded both of happier times. Additionally, the fusion between Lusamine and Nihilego is very volatile, as when Nihilego feels like their life may be threatened, they can simply end the fusion right then and there. This leaves a massive strain on Lusamine’s body, rendering her unconscious for a good while. The fusion also deteriorates Lusamine’s mind to that of a child’s, potentially ruining her ability to strategize during battles.

RAGYŌ  IS THE WORST MOTHER IN ANIME HISTORY - KILL LA KILL IN DEATH BATTLE!

Anyone who dares oppose me—no, the Life Fibers—will suffer the same fate!

BACKGROUND

In the world of Kill La Kill, an extraterrestrial entity crash-landed on Earth millions of years ago. This was the Primordial Life Fiber. Its ultimate goal was to dominate the planet and cover it with Life Fibers. The Life Fibers infest a planet’s lifeforms by using the electrical current of a host’s nervous system. However, since the hosts couldn’t withstand the strain of a Life Fiber infestation, they decided to cover the host externally instead. They targeted the ancestors of today's humans, which were the species with the most well-developed brains at the time, and started accelerating their evolutionary process. Over time, Life Fibers entered a dormant state, yet left mankind with the evolutionary instinct to cover itself. Along came the Kiryūin clan, who took it upon themselves to keep the dormant Primordial Life Fiber safe. And then one day, one of its many elders saw the Primordial Life Fiber awaken, and she would seize this opportunity to take over the world. This was Ragyō Kiryūin.

Ragyō is…something else. She’s power-hungry, cold-hearted, narcissistic, traitorous, sadistic, unsympathetic, ruthless, salacious, manipulative, and violently destructive. Even being a mother never slowed down her malicious beliefs. She met a man named Sōichirō Kiryūin and married him, using his incredible scientific knowledge to conduct experiments on Life Fibers. She was particularly interested in infusing Life Fibers into living organisms; living organisms like her children… She’d first experimented on her first child, Satsuki, who turned out to be too old for the process. The second one, who’d later become the main protagonist of the series, was also deemed a failure, being disposed of shortly after. Understandably, her husband was pretty disgusted by this and faked his daughter’s death so he could escape and raise her separately for about half a decade. Eventually, he set his plan into motion, but knew well it would most likely result in death. As such, he told the young Satsuki the truth about Life Fibers, its research, her future wedding dress Junketsu, and her mother’s true ambitions before leaving. Sōichirō went into hiding after an assassination attempt by Takiji; faking his death, he forged a new identity as Isshin Matoi, altering his appearance to that of a short, hunchbacked old man.

What was Ragyō up to during this time? Well, aside from running the world’s worst clothing brand and being one of the heads of Honnōji  Academy, she’d been prepping Satsuki to be her successor. Doesn’t sound that bad until you learn how she’d do it (jesus christ). She’d also create an artificial Life Fiber womb from the mass of the Primordial Life Fiber, within which Nui was grown. Upon reaching her full development, Nui was raised by Ragyō as a servant of the Life Fibers, becoming the Grand Couturier of the Kiryūin Conglomerate (and of REVOCS as a whole). About six months before the events of the series, Nui was sent to the Matoi Residence by Ragyō in search of Isshin Matoi's secret creation. After a short battle, Isshin unveiled the Scissor Blades to use against Nui. However, Nui overwhelmed the scientist and stabbed him repeatedly. While Isshin was able to cut Nui’s left eye, Isshin was swiftly taken out of commission. Thankfully, his daughter, the one presumed dead, now named Ryūko, eventually took on the challenge of avenging her father’s death. During this time, Ragyō gifted Satsuki with Junketsu, a Kamui.

Even a whole plot to overthrow her by her own daughter couldn’t stop her. Ragyō brainwashed the student body to turn on Satsuki, who managed to overcome them. Even Satsuki, with a Kamui of her own, was no match for her own mother, who brutally ripped the Jenketsu off of Satsuki and had her tortured for about a month. She’d also rip out Ryūko ’s heart to be Life Fiber completed. With this, Ragyō unleashed the Life Fibers onto civilization. Fortunately for the world, the combined efforts of both Ryūko and Satsuki were enough to take down their mother and the Life Fibers’ plan of world domination. Even after all she’s done, Ryūko  offered her mother reconciliation, but she rejected it and decided to end her own life instead. With her gone, the threat of the Life Fibers soon came with her, but she warned that they would return. Hopefully, not with her around anymore.

SKILL & EXPERIENCE

In combat, Ragyō is an absolute beast. She could easily keep up and overpower her Kamui-empowered daughters, without so much as looking them in the eye. She’s even able to take out multiple armed soldiers all at once, again, without as much as looking at any of their general direction. Holding off her daughters is no joke, especially since they’re well-versed in combat themselves, with Satsuki being trained from childhood to be a master combatant (in her younger years, she beat Uzu Sanageyama, a master swordsman and one of the most well-respected gang leaders within the Kanto Region, who personally trained 500 martial artists at the age of 15), and Ryūko is just as skilled as Satsuki, yet a tad more reliant on instinct than someone like Satsuki).

Ragyō is incredibly intelligent, specifically being very knowledgeable on everything Life Fibers. She’s basically the ruler of an entire city, being able to take over Honno City in about a month with the Life Fibers. She is also the CEO of REVOCS Corporation, the biggest clothing conglomerate in the world, responsible for 100% of all clothing. This was all part of her plan, however, as all the clothing in the world had some traces of dormant Life Fiber in them, meaning she basically spread the Life Fibers worldwide without anyone knowing.

NOTABLE EQUIPMENT

Shinra-Kōketsu

Just as Ryūko has Senketsu and Satsuki has Junketsu, Ragyō has her own Kamui. Specifically designed for Ragyō herself by Nui, its full power can only be activated by absorbing a second person to use as a host (in this case, Rei Hōōmaru). Shinra-Kōketsu is described as the strongest Kamui, even stronger than the ones her daughters possess.

As a Kamui, they constantly feed on their host’s blood to survive. While this would be devastating for almost anyone, especially for a Kamui this powerful, thanks to Ragyō ’s special body, she can handle this with no problem. Admittedly, Shinra-Kōketsu looks sick as hell, even giving Ragyō a cool ass hood. Like all Kamui, Kōketsu can shapeshift to fit the needs of the situation.

Life Fiber Blades

Ragyō has her own set of blades that look like sewing needles. These were made from ultra-hardened Life Fiber produced from the Primordial Life Fiber itself. These blades can sever Life Fibers and can also shapeshift them into a pair of spiked, tree branch-like blades.

SUPPORT

Nui Harime

Technically, she’s Ragyō ’s third child. While Nui may seem cute and bubbly on the outside, she’s actually pretty sadistic and violent. She is the Grand Couturier of the REVOCS Corporation, which, in clothing terms, means she’s a high-ranking fashion designer, and in the Kill La Kill-verse, it means that she’s one of the strongest characters in the series and one of Ragyō ’s top commanders.

Her main weapon is the other half of the Scissor Blades Isshin Matoi created. While not as deadly as the whole thing, even just one half of the Scissor Blades is still something to behold. But that’s not all the weapons she has. She has a razor-sharp tape measure that she can use as a whip. She also has her iconic parasol, which I’m surprised isn’t a hidden weapon in disguise. She also just has a needle she uses for sneak attacks. But perhaps the weirdest part of her arsenal is her Life Fiber arms, being ableto shapeshift into pretty much anything she can think of.

Nui can do some pretty bonkers stuff. She has the regenerative ability that top-tier Kill La Kill characters have, but she can also fully shapeshift her form (although that eyepatch is a pretty dead giveaway), control minds (to a somewhat lesser degree than Ragyō but hey that's still impressive), duplicate herself (although her duplicates are far weaker), and even break the fourth wall.

Rei Hōōmaru

Ragyō ’s secretary in REVOCS Corporation. Rei was originally an African child whose hometown was caught up in a civil war. Ragyō, who was searching for humans with high Life Fiber compatibility, saved the child by dismembering the soldiers who tried to shoot her. Ragyō then found that the girl was what she was looking for, took her in, naming her "Rei Hōōmaru" and giving her a pair of green aviator sunglasses. While not the most notable combatant in the series herself, she has done something that sets her apart from everyone else on this list: actually create clones that are deadly.

Using the remaining Life Fibers, she successfully managed to create dark clones of Satsuki and the Elite Four (Ira Gamagōri, Uzu Sanageyama, Nonon Jakuzure, and Hōka Inumuta). They’re described as being “the past-selves” of each person cloned as well as being physically on par with the originals. Although with a few words of inspiration, they were easily dealt with.

Honnōji  Academy Mecha

If the series wasn’t weird enough, the entire fucking school can turn into a giant mecha monster. Just fucking look at this thing, man. It can cause city-wide destruction just by existing. It can use the S.S. Naked Sun, which is basically a giant airship carrier, as a melee weapon.

COVERS (and pretty much every Life Fiber)

COVERS are Life Fiber entities that are responsible for the dissemination of Life Fibers throughout the world. They can be roughly separated into three groups: Cloth-type COVERS, Humanoid COVERS, and Combat Enhanced COVERS. According to Ragyō , the intent of the COVERS is to "bind the heavens, the earth and mankind, covering all."

Cloth-type COVERS take the shape of flat, white business suits with a red bowtie. They can move and fight autonomously as long as they stay in contact with the Original Life Fiber, usually by one or two Life Fibers that connect them to their source.

Humanoid COVERS are Cloth-type COVERS that are capable of absorbing energy directly from humans, allowing them to act independently of the Original Life Fiber. They assume the appearance of a two-piece suit.

When a Humanoid COVER absorbs a human being as an energy source, it becomes a Combat Enhanced COVER that specialises in combat and can operate independently from the Original Life Fiber. In this form, the COVER gains a more substantial, muscular appearance, with their "bowtie" enlarging into eye-like growths and a necktie-shaped hole appearing in their chests that bears the emaciated face of its absorbee. Once the human inside is removed, their movement ceases, and eventually break down into threads of Life Fiber.

When enough members of the species have been taken over by Life Fibers, the aliens will take control of their hosts and rise into the stratosphere, creating a massive "cocoon" of Life Fibers that envelops the entire planet. This is known as the Celestial Cocoon Seed Planet, Cocoon Sphere Genesis, or Starseed Cocoon Sphere. We see this in Episode 24, where Ragyō uses one of her abilities to awaken every Life Fiber to wrap the world with…every Life Fiber.

Primordial Life Fiber

The original Life Fiber that crash-landed on Earth all those millennia ago. This is where all Life Fiber… stuff comes from, and it is incredibly powerful because of this. Despite being an entity that craves the death and destruction of a planet’s lifeforms, they’re best known for creation. The threads of the PLF can be used to create artificial humans via an artificial womb (see Nui), it can create clones (see Rei and the dark clones she made with the Life Fibers) and in Kill La Kill: IF, each thread from the Primordial Life Fiber is stated to be able to create an entirely new universe. While they usually look like a massive ball of energy, they can assume the visage of a giant baby in IF.

ABILITIES

Ragyō ’s Unique Physiology

Ragyō’s body
was revealed to be infused with Life Fibers, which enhances her physical abilities to superhuman levels. She’s much faster and stronger than pretty much anyone in the series, and just like her daughters, she can easily bond with her Kamui due to the Life Fibers infused into her body. She can even survive in space without her Kamui. With her knowledge on the parasitic life forms as well as her enhanced body, she can do a lot of things, like…

Life Fiber Manipulation

She can easily manipulate any surrounding Life Fibers to use as weapons, such as:

Flight

Somehow, Ragyō can fly without the aid of her Kamui, but her Kamui allows her to fly at higher speeds.

Regeneration

Beings infused with Life Fibers can regenerate quickly from pretty much anything as Life Fibers regenerate the moment they're cut. This is why the Scissor Blades are dangerous to Life Fiber constructs, as they can cut from both sides, nullifying their regenerative properties. Anyways, Ragyō’s regeneration is insane. As long as a single thread is connected to her body to her head, she can put herself back together. She can survive pretty much anything, ranging from decapitation to having her organs ripped out of her body.

Mind Stitching

One of Ragyō’s most dangerous abilities. She basically weaves Life Fibers into someone’s brain, essentially controlling them to do whatever Ragyō wants. She can do this to up to thousands of targets all at once and pretty much works instantly. It can be negated if the Life Fibers inside the person’s brain are removed or if you just destroy the threads before they reach your brain.

Absolute Domination

Shinra-Koketsu's main ability, it allows Ragyō to dominate other Life Fiber-based clothing such as Goku Uniforms and Kamuis, neutralizing their powers and transformations and leaving their users physically paralyzed. This ability also acts as a trigger for the creation of the Celestial Cocoon Seed Planet, also known as the Cocoon Sphere Genesis or Starseed Cocoon Sphere, by working as an activation signal to all the dormant Life Fibers present in the REVOCS clothing. When active, this ability makes Ragyō immune to being harmed by Life Fiber-based weapons such as the combined Scissor Blades. However, this ability appears to require a sacrifice, preferably a human one, to be used to its full potential. It worked properly when absorbing Rei, but was unable to affect any of the Goku Uniform users after absorbing Nui.

Shapeshifting

Shinra-Koketsu can alter its form for combat and support. It has a set of fragmented pieces on its back that resemble butterfly wings, with the same eye pattern as on other Kamui, which Ragyō can alter into drill-like, malleable blades. She could also alter Koketsu's sleeves into the same kind of blades. After absorbing Nui, Ragyō was able to alter the bottom part of her outfit into a set of detachable booster rockets in order to travel to the REVOCS satellite.

By casting away the last remnants of her humanity, Ragyō draws even more power from Shinra-Koketsu, undergoing a transformation. In this form, the chest part of the outfit becomes more form-fitting, like a corset; the hood of the dress disappears; and Ragyō 's hair is styled into a pair of horns, giving her a much more demonic appearance.

Light Manipulation

Somehow, Ragyō can just emanate a bright rainbow light. Probably just a stylistic thing to show her flair and dominance, but apparently these lights can knock opponents back.

Projection

Ragyō can project a visage of herself using Life Fibers. This is a physical construct and can be destroyed, but it can easily regenerate itself no problem.

Resistances

  • Mind Manipulation: Ragyō, being made up of over 70% Life Fibers herself, is immune to the Life Fibers’ mental manipulation on their host. She should also be able to resist stuff like Mind Stitching, just like Ryūko .

  • Resistance to Space: She’s fought in outer space with no issue.

FEATS

Overall

  • Successfully covered the Earth in Life Fibers via Cocoon Sphere Genesis.

  • Ran the company that produced 100% of all clothing, managing to spread the Life Fibers worldwide.

  • Worst mom in anime history.

Attack Potency/Strength

Speed

  • Ragyō can casually dodge missiles.

  • Flew to a satellite in seconds (Mach 14.5 – 182.2)

  • Got behind Ryūko before she could react.

  • Nui can easily dodge point-blank Anti-Life Fiber gunfire and explosions from Tsumugu Kinagase.

  • The Primordial Life Fiber gathers and brings in Life Fibers from other timelines, of which it absorbs.

(256.737 Quadrillions C).

Durability

  • Ragyō also survived being at the epicenter of an explosion that destroyed Ragyō  Stadium (3.3 petatons9.1 exatons of TNT).

  • Nui survived getting kicked through multiple sheets of metal

  • Her COVERS blocked several explosions larger than the top of Honnōji  Academy.

SCALING

As Ragyō’s pretty much at the upper echelon of power in the cast, she should be able to scale to pretty much everyone in the series.

Ryūko Matoi

Satsuki Kiryuin

  • Her initial clash with Berserk Ryūko creates a huge burst of dust (5.5 – 135.3 teratons of TNT)

  • Keeps pace with Berserk Ryūko

  • Satsuki's Kamui, Junketsu, created a parallel universe made out of Satsuki's desires whilst she slept. Junketsu's Life Fibers sustained this realm, and removing them would destroy it. (Universal)

  • Using Ryūko 's Rending Scissors, snipped Junketsu's realm. (Universal)

Misc.

WEAKNESSES

Despite being a terrifying threat, Ragyō is not invincible. Clothes made out of Life Fibers, such as Shinra-Kōketsu, possess a thread called a Banshi, which holds the will to become clothing and will cause it to unravel if cut or removed. While this is something that’s difficult to pull off, it is still a weakness that can be exploited. Additionally, her regeneration is tied to the Life Fibers, meaning it can be overcome if they are destroyed before they can fully regenerate (or cut from both sides). It is possible to kill Ragyō if you destroy her heart, but she has survived her heart getting impaled, so… One of her abilities, Absolute Domination, only works if Ragyō is bonded to Shinra-Kōketsu. Ragyō  is also very arrogant, which can cause her to overlook certain stuff due to her arrogance and overconfidence. Satsuki did use her mom’s arrogance to stab her in the back.

BEFORE THE VERDICT…

We have to talk about the cosmological scales for both these combatants because I had to make this matchup even more complicated for me…

Let’s start off with Kill La Kill since it’s a lot simpler for me to look over than whatever Pokémon has going on…

Going off of the anime and manga, Kill La Kill seems like a pretty grounded universe, for the most part. No layered dimensions, no real mentions of an infinitely sized universe, just your average universe, for the most part. Kill La Kill: IF does go one step further, though. To address the elephant in the room, IF is canon, or at least secondary canon. The events of the game don’t necessarily contradict anything that happens in the anime. Hell, Ryūko's campaign ends with them going back to the main timeline, and the events of the game are described as happening in the context of the main canon, but they didn't have time to actually put it in the anime by Kill la Kill IF Producer, Takeshi Yamanaka. The game was even written by Kazuki Nakashima himself, the writer of the anime on which it is based. So, with that out of the way, what additions does IF give to Kill La Kill’s overall cosmology?

Well, in the game, we figure out that Life Fibers can create whole universes. Junketsu turned Satsuki's dreams and desires into its own tangible reality. These new realities are described as timelines/dimensions, and they even have visible celestial bodies, meaning that each new reality is its own universe. But each of these realities is naught but a thread in the Primordial Life Fiber’s seemingly endless mass of Life Fiber threads. But just how many threads make up this extraterrestrial threat? Well, thanks to these calculations, there are about 10 billion threads that make up the PLF, meaning that the Kill La Kill-verse has about 10 billion universes in its multiverse. There are arguments that other Studio Trigger media are also part of this multiverse, but it really does nothing for scaling for the most part.

So, let’s move on to Pokémon, which just gets… crazy due to the fact that there really isn’t a set Pokémon canon? This rundown will mainly focus on the games, anime, and manga. So, the Pokémon multiverse is said to be infinite in size and scope, with each universe also being infinite in size. There are also separate pockets of reality that exist within the macrocosms of the multiverse. There’s the Distortion World that’s Giratina’s domain, which is stated to be parallel to the main universe. There’s also Palkia and Dialga’s own special universes. There are even multiple windows that show parallel universes (and are both somehow connected to the viewer’s emotions, thoughts, and subconscious), like the Reflection Cave and Hyperspace. There’s also multiple ways you could access these universes physically like the Entralink or just… trading in general, but there’s one that kind of stands above them all…

Enter Ultra Space. It’s described as an interdimensional spatial realm, usually populated by very colorful wormholes called… Ultra Wormholes. These wormholes can send you to different worlds, like where each Ultra Beast resides, and even alternate timelines, like Dia’s world in the anime, the original timeline, with no Mega Evolution (Anabel), and even a parallel universe in the games where time is altered (because Sun and Moon funny). With all of this, the Pokémon multiverse is comfortably at Multiversal+.

VERDICT

Stats

Let’s start with Power. As Ragyō is at the upper echelon of power in the Kill La Kill-verse, she should be able to match and potentially surpass any feat done in the series, including Ryūko’s feat of blowing a hole through the Cocoon Genesis Sphere, a feat worth about 45 yottatons of TNT. Impressive, but Lusamine’s Pokémon should be able to match those that could literally flip the Earth around using Seismic Toss, a feat that’s worth 200 - 500 ronnatons of TNT. That’s an 11 thousand times difference! But, at their best, both sides have the ability to affect universes. We know that each of the Primordial Life Fiber’s threads is a universe, with there being 10 billion of them that make up the PLF. Since the PLF can easily manipulate these threads, Ragyō’s side should be around 10 billion times Universal. In comparison, Lusamine’s side can only really affect a single universe, but the Pokémon universe is infinite in size and scope, with extra layers of reality within the universe, like Ultra Space. This puts Lusamine at about Multiversal+, a level of power that Ragyō simply can't match. Lusamine takes the Power advantage.

Let’s talk Speed. Unfortunately for the rainbow-haired mother, Lusamine also takes the edge in this category. With more conservative scaling, Ragyō should be able to match and surpass Ryūko’s baseball-slicing feat, which places her at around… 2 - 1,000,000x lightspeed. And factoring in IF in this fight, she should be around 66 million to 256 quadrillion x lightspeed thanks to Ryūko and the PLF’s Life Fiber absorption feats. But Lusamine is borderline FTL, as lesser Pokémon like the Dugtrio line can already move at lightspeed. Add on the fact that the Ultra Beasts can match Solgaleo and Lunala, being able to move at a billion times lightspeed, and the Creation Trio’s 6 quintillion x lightspeed feats, and Lusamine ends up having, at most, a 23x speed advantage. Not the most substantial, but more than enough to get past the Life Fiber’s regenerative properties. Lusamine gets the edge in Speed.

Abilities

Both surprisingly had some similar abilities, like Ragyō’s Mind Stitching and Nihilego’s Mind Control. Both work instantaneously and allow both sides to control others at will. Ragyō’s mind control is definitely stronger than MOTHERBEAST’s, but Nihilego could potentially shield off mental attacks (at least for a time), as well as the Psychic-Type Pokémon on Lusamine’s side being able to resist Psychic attacks. The Life Fibers’ ability to warp time and space is impressive, but Ultra Beasts like Kartana and Necrozma could do the same. Ragyō’s Absolute Domination wouldn’t really work on Lusamine’s side, considering it only works on Life Fibers. Ragyō has a more stable fusion with her Kamui, but she had no way to remove Nihilego from Lusamine, as she simply lacked the power to do so. This category was always going to come down to which side had the abilities that the other side couldn’t counter.

If there was one thing that Ragyō’s side had over Lusamine’s, it’s that their regeneration is utterly more busted. Her side could definitely shrug off most attacks, potentially giving them some time to get a few good hits in. However, thanks to Lusamine’s side overwhelming power and speed advantage, it wouldn’t be long until they could simply blow through the Life Fibers before they could heal. Granted, Lusamine’s side doesn’t have the same kind of regeneration that Ragyō’s has, so a few good hits could definitely spell more trouble for the blonde. But they could circumvent this thanks to their physical superiority and other abilities Lusamine has that Ragyō has no proper counter to, specifically the Ultra Wormholes.

The Ultra Wormholes are easily Lusamine’s best win condition. She could always send in more Ultra Beasts into the fight, hop in and out of different universes in case the current battle gets out of hand, and even just send most, if not all, of Ragyō’s side away, essentially ending the fight then and there. Ragyō’s never really shown the ability to hop between universes, so if she gets cast away to a faraway dimension, and Lusamine’s no stranger to the ability, she’d have no way back to continue the fight. Even if Ragyō were to somehow trap Lusamine in a universe made by Life Fibers, she could simply open up an Ultra Wormhole and just pop back up in the main one, continuing the fight.

This was a hard category to figure out, as both countered each other very well. Their vast array of Abilities meant that both realistically had a chance to overwhelm the other. But thanks to Lusamine’s side being able to summon Ultra Wormholes whenever they wished, they simply had far better control over this fight. Abilities slightly lean in Lusamine’s favor.

Skill & Experience

Both Lusamine and Ragyō are both skilled combatants in their own ways, but Ragyō’s more consistent showings in direct combat, as well as the better variety of enemies that she’s taken down means that Ragyō has better battle instincts overall. It’s unknown just how long Lusamine has been a Trainer, and while she can certainly match skilled Trainers like Hau, Kukui, Elio, and Selene, Ragyō’s better showcases and wider variety foes faced gives her the edge in Skill.

This extends to Experience as well. Both have ran large conglomerates for years, potentially decades, and both have used manipulation to reach their goals, but Ragyō has done so at a far larger scale. REVOCS Corporation has successfully infused the entire world with Life Fibers, while Aether Foundation honestly has not done that much. The most Lusamine could show for this was affecting Alola Region when she opened all those Ultra Wormholes. But that simply isn’t enough. Ragyō’s simply more experienced.

  • No way to counteract the Ultra Wormholes sending her to another universe.

  • Arrogance can get the best of her.

  • Would have difficulty removing Nihilego from Lusamine.

  • Absolute Domination was kinda useless.

  • Worst mother of all time.

This fight was far from easy to figure out. Both were fierce combatants who had a lot going for them. Lusamine clearly held the advantage in raw power and speed, while Ragyō held the edge in skill and experience. But what would’ve sold the victory for these two was what they could dish out, and in that regard, Ragyō just couldn’t answer Lusamine’s overall versatility, Ultra Wormholes, and that damn Necrozma that we hate to love. In the end, Lusamine had the oomph to cut Ragyō down to size and leave those Life Fibers snipped (I couldn’t think of a better pun so I just stole that last part from Death Battle I’m sorry-).

The winner is Lusamine.
